1. Introduction
The Uzbek Journal of Modern Physics acknowledges the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific publishing. AI tools can support authors and enhance productivity—from improving language clarity to simplifying data analysis and automating content generation. However, their use must be carefully managed to uphold academic integrity, originality, transparency, and accountability.
This policy outlines the journal’s position on the ethical and responsible use of AI tools in manuscript preparation. It aims to establish clear boundaries, prevent misunderstandings, and ensure compliance with the best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and its discussion papers on AI in decision-making processes.

2. Definition of AI Tools
For the purposes of this policy, AI tools refer to digital systems, platforms, or software that use artificial intelligence methods—such as machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and deep learning—to generate, analyze, translate, summarize, or alter textual, numerical, visual, or audio data in a research context.
Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other large language models (LLMs)

  • Writing and grammar tools such as Grammarly, DeepL Write, and Quillbot

  • AI-powered data analysis and visualization software

  • AI systems for creating images, charts, or statistical models

  • AI-based literature review and citation generators

3. Acceptable Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI tools for specific purposes under the following conditions:

a. Permissible Uses

  • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation checking

  • Enhancing language clarity, style, and tone

  • Formatting references and citations

  • Conducting initial literature searches

  • Assisting (but not replacing) statistical analysis or modeling

  • Generating basic visual aids or illustrations (if ethically sourced and verified)

  • The similarity score from https://antiplagiat.ru/ must not exceed 20% for AI-written text. Authors must revise manuscripts exceeding this threshold.

b. Restricted Uses
AI tools must not be used to:

  • Generate entire manuscripts or substantial portions of original content without proper authorship attribution and critical review

  • Fabricate or falsify data, images, or conclusions

  • Translate texts without human verification

  • Automatically summarize or paraphrase published works in a way that constitutes plagiarism

  • Create content that infringes copyrights or reproduces identifiable third-party materials without permission

4. Author Responsibility
Authors are solely responsible for the content submitted to the journal, including content created or modified using AI tools. Authors must:

  • Verify the accuracy, originality, and reliability of any AI-generated content

  • Ensure the content is free from plagiarism, bias, factual errors, or hallucinations

  • Acknowledge any external data, sources, or identifiable materials used or suggested by AI

  • Assume full accountability for any ethical breaches or inaccuracies arising from AI use

  • Critically review and edit all AI-generated outputs to ensure alignment with scientific and disciplinary standards

5. Authorship and AI Tools
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research and accept responsibility for its content.
Listing AI tools in the author byline, author notes, or author contribution statements is strictly prohibited and may result in rejection or retraction of the article.

6. Disclosure Requirements
Authors must provide full and transparent disclosure when AI tools are used beyond acceptable purposes. This disclosure must include:

  • The name, version, and developer/provider of the AI tool

  • A clear description of the purpose and extent of its use

  • A statement confirming that the authors have reviewed and take responsibility for all AI-generated content

7. Placement of AI Disclosure in Manuscripts
Depending on how AI tools were used, the disclosure should appear in one or more of the following sections:

a. Methods Section
If the tool was used for data analysis, image creation, coding, or other research methodology elements.

b. Acknowledgments Section
If the tool assisted with language quality, translation, or formatting.

c. Dedicated Disclosure Statement Section
Authors are strongly encouraged to include a section titled “AI Tools Usage Statement” with wording such as:
“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [insert AI tool name, version, and developer] for [describe the purpose and scope]. All outputs generated by AI were critically reviewed and thoroughly edited by the authors to ensure factual accuracy, clarity, and compliance with academic standards. The authors take full responsibility for the integrity and content of this manuscript.”

8. Editorial Oversight and Peer Review
Editors and reviewers will assess AI disclosures as part of the ethical and methodological evaluation of the manuscript. If undisclosed or improper AI use is suspected, the editorial team may:

  • Request clarification or corrections from the authors

  • Reject the manuscript

  • Report the matter to the author’s institution or initiate a formal investigation in cases of misconduct

The Uzbek Journal of Modern Physics will not rely solely on automated software to determine content originality. All assessments will involve human oversight and direct communication with authors.

9. Consequences of Noncompliance
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript at any review stage

  • Retraction of the article after publication

  • Notification of the author’s institution in cases of suspected misconduct

  • Ban on future submissions if violations are serious or repeated

10. Appeals and Dispute Resolution
If an author disagrees with an editorial decision related to AI use, they may submit a formal written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief. The appeal must be clearly reasoned, include supporting evidence, and reference this policy. Appeals will be reviewed by the internal ethics committee or, if necessary, forwarded to an independent COPE advisor.

11. Editorial Use of AI
The Uzbek Journal of Modern Physics does not use AI tools to make autonomous editorial or peer review decisions. Any future use of AI by the editorial team will be transparent and always subject to human verification and final judgment.

12. Policy Updates and Author Guidance
As AI technology evolves, this policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect emerging risks, benefits, and community standards. Authors are advised to consult this policy before submitting manuscripts and to contact the editorial office with any uncertainties about AI compliance.
The Uzbek Journal of Modern Physics encourages responsible innovation and adherence to ethical research and publishing practices.

13. Ethical Framework and References
This policy is grounded in the ethical principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including:

  • COPE Core Practices

  • COPE Discussion Document on AI in Decision Making

  • COPE Guidelines on Authorship and Contributorship

  • COPE Retraction Guidelines
Authors are expected to adhere to these standards as a condition of submitting to the Uzbek Journal of Modern Physics.
